Basic Job Functions:

Duties and responsibilities of the Project Engineer include but are not limited to:

 

  • Manage and lead multiple capital projects from conception to completion working closely with operations and maintenance teams
  • Prepare proposal layouts, description, timeline, specifications (RFQ), and budgets for capital projects
  • Read, review, and provide input on project proposal drawings for accuracy
  • Obtain, review, compare, and negotiate contractor quotes
  • Prioritize simultaneously occurring tasks and projects
  • Work with area maintenance teams to troubleshoot plant issues, interpret, explain drawings
  • Assist in mechanical and production problem solving, gather and analyze information skillfully
  • Maintain drawing database accuracy by updating and creating new plant and equipment drawings, working with Vault document management system
  • Design of small structures and improved parts/equipment
  • Mentor and teach engineering co-ops
  • Meet and exceed all safety policy, procedure, and housekeeping expectation

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks software

 

Environmental Demands:

 

  • Regular exposure to heavy manufacturing and industrial environments, including steel mill operations
  • Presence in areas with high temperatures, loud noise, dust, and moving machinery
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots may be necessary during site visits

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in large scale project management
  • 2 years engineering experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, intern experience considered
  • Ability to Communicate technical information well in both verbal and written forms
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office suite programs
  • Knowledge of current codes, regulations, and standards

 

Salary dependent on experience and qualifications + ROA Bonus
