Metallurgist

Basic Job Functions:

This position will be an integral part of quality processes in our plate and coil steel manufacturing plant. Principal duties of the successful candidate will include participating in safety and housekeeping efforts, helping with process and product development, leading quality improvement efforts, leading team member training efforts, utilizing statistical process control tools to direct continuous improvement activities, working closely with operation and maintenance teams to ensure continuous improvements, working closely with customers on product development. Nucor Team Members are expected to participate in and promote an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork while maintaining compliance in all areas of the site within our Quality Control System.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent technical/engineering related steel production experience

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Plate Steel Experience
•    Experience reading and responding to industry and customer specifications
•    Ability to communicate technical information effectively to technical and non-technical peers.
