Environmental Operator

Basic Job Functions:

The Environmental Operator is first and foremost responsible for ensuring the safety of themselves and the team and helping to lead in the continuous improvement of the safety practices across the division. In addition, the Environmental Operator is responsible for ensuring compliance with State and Federal environmental regulations through the operation and maintenance of baghouses, water systems, and all other associated equipment. The Environmental Operator also conducts various inspections, visible emission observations, spill response, housekeeping, and other environmentally related tasks.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 10 years of steel mill or heavy industrial experience
• 5 years of mechanical experience
• 5 years of welding experience

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Troubleshooting mechanical issues
•    Strong electrical background
•    Experience working with and troubleshooting hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems
•    Experience with water systems operations, water chemistry analysis, and pollution control equipment (i.e., baghouses, dust collectors, etc.)
•    HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT and Method 9 training/certifications

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Must be able to climb stairs and access elevated work areas.
• Capable of operating mobile equipment safely and effectively.

Environmental Requirements

• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.
• Must be able to work in high-heat, dusty industrial environments.
• Regular exposure to loud noise and heavy machinery.
• Consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
