Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Decatur is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support and improve highly automated steel manufacturing operations. This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on with large-scale industrial systems, lead impactful capital and process improvement projects, and contribute directly to the success of a world-class steel operation. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting maintenance and operations through technical troubleshooting and system optimization
  • Designing and implementing electrical and automation improvements
  • Managing capital and continuous improvement projects
  • Developing electrical standards, specifications, and documentation
  • Troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, drives, motors, and industrial control systems
  • Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times

Minimum Qualifications:

1. The ability and desire to work safely and provide guidance for an accident-free workplace

2. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and two years of relevant work experience, or five years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree

3. Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls

4. Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Steel manufacturing, heavy industrial, or continuous process environments
  2. Melting, casting, rolling, or finishing operations
  3. Capital project management
  4. Root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives

Preferred Technical Skills

  1. PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting
  2. Power distribution systems
  3. Industrial networking and automation systems
  4. AutoCAD or electrical drawing software
  5. Data analysis and reporting tools
