Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Lead Lab Technician includes, but is not limited to, testing product samples to ensure compliance with established specifications and standards; assist with maintaining up-to-date specifications, QALPs, WIs, SOPs, etc.; disposition support and follow-up activities with regard to returned product (RMAs). The Lead is also expected to assist with the daily functions of the Lab while continually improving the operations of the department – including weekends or holidays, if needed – and contribute improvement of the division Quality Management System through participation in the IATF 16949 and ISO/IEC 17025 certification programs.  

 

Lab testing includes product characteristics such as: dimensional, proof load, tensile properties, hardness, magnetic particle, micro-hardness, rotational capacity, tensional control assembly testing, hydrogen embrittlement testing, and others. Additional duties may include processing/dispositioning NMRs per the appropriate specification (including follow up with each department), as well as managing sort tables and sort backlogs to ensure timely and accurate product handling. 

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • Must be willing to work any shift (including weekends) 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Quality Laboratory practices and related equipment
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Post-secondary coursework in a technical field
  • Experience with a quality management system (i.e., ISO/IEC 17025, IATF 16949)
  • PC Proficient (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.)
