Basic Job Functions:

Repairs and maintains mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of production machines and equipment, such as metal fabricator machine tools, material handling systems, automated lubrication systems, and basic electrical work, such as checking fuses by working with or around some electrical components. Working in confined spaces performing these types of jobs: performing chemical and pipe repair in the chemical room, chemical exhaust system repair, performing welding (Mig & Arc) of foam sawdust system repair in exhaust and baghouse with fumes and sawdust. Job duties include, but are not limited to, crawling under equipment and conveyors, manually moving, shifting, and torquing heavy equipment. Doing repairs in the laminating room with heat exceeding 120 degrees. Will be working in a non aircondition building with heat rising to 100 plus degrees in the summer months and extreme cold in the winter months and work outdoors in all types of weather (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc. ) Must be able to stand, stoop, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl in tight places for the entire workday and all overtime needed ( 60 plus hours.) Must be able to multitask on a daily basis and work excessive overtime as required, including the weekends and call-in bases if machinery has mechanical problems and requires maintenance. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Visually inspects and listens to machines and heavy equipment to locate causes of malfunctions. Dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to the problem area.
  • Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
  • Removes and replaces worn or defective parts of the drive mechanism, hydraulic & pneumatic systems. Realigns and adjusts components such as spindles and clutches.
  • Repair forklifts
  • Cutting torch and welding ( Mig & Arc) experience
  • Locates damaged air and hydraulic pipes on the machine, and measures, cuts, threads, and installs new pipe. Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
  • Lubricates and services equipment as required.
  • Sets up and operates metalworking tools such as a lathe, drill press, or grinder, to make or repair parts. Basic electrical skill level, run conduit, fuses, etc.
  • Assists the Mechanical Engineer in modifying sketches or computer-generated designs of machine components such as hydraulic & pneumatic systems and drive mechanisms.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two-year certificate from college or tech school, and a minimum of four years of related experience.

Ability to interpret and read documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, and operating maintenance instructions.

Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
