Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

The Quality Samples Technician is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and distributing high-quality product samples for prospective and existing customers. This role ensures all samples meet company quality standards, are accurately inventoried, properly packaged, and shipped in a timely manner. The Quality Samples Technician also supports plant safety, quality, and environmental initiatives through participation in audits and continuous improvement efforts.

Sample Preparation and Quality

  • Cut insulated panels to required sample dimensions using appropriate equipment and procedures.
  • Prepare joint samples and long panel samples for customer requests and marketing purposes.
  • Ensure all samples are in pristine condition prior to shipment by:
    • Filing steel edges to remove burrs and sharp surfaces.
    • Cleaning and repairing foam edges as needed.
    • Sanding, filling, and repairing imperfections in foam.
    • Touching up paint blemishes to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Inspect finished samples to verify they meet company quality standards and customer expectations.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain an organized inventory of sample panels, joints, and related materials.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate quantities of samples are available to support customer requests.
  • Conduct routine inventory counts and reconciliation.
  • Communicate available sample inventory to the Corporate Samples Department on a regular basis to support website updates and inventory visibility.

Shipping and Distribution

  • Process sample requests received through email and other communication channels.
  • Review request details to ensure samples are sent to the correct recipient and location.
  • Pull and prepare requested samples for shipment.
  • Create and print shipping labels and associated documentation.
  • Package samples securely to prevent damage during transportation.
  • Coordinate with the Shipping Department to ensure timely delivery of customer samples.
  • Maintain records of sample shipments and requests as required.

Safety, Quality, and Environmental Support

  • Participate in Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE/EQS) floor walk audits.
  • Support compliance with company safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards, quality concerns, or process improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to read and interpret shipping information, work instructions, and email requests.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and printing shipping documents.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferences:

  • Experience in manufacturing, production, shipping, or inventory management.
  • Experience using hand tools, measuring devices, and material handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of insulated panel products and sample preparation processes.
