Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel - Sedalia is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Safety Coordinator. The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, working closely with plant personnel to ensure safety compliance; Promoting workplace safety by identifying and controlling potential hazards; Developing and/or reviewing safety programs to determine their adequacy; Being on call 24/7; Safety and health training and auditing. Candidate will perform moderate physical activity such as walking in all areas of a large industrial facility, climbing stairs/fixed ladders, working at an elevated location, standing for prolonged periods of time. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US. 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all time. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4-Year Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field; and/or 2 years of Safety work experience or 2 years of Industrial work experience or a combination thereof.

  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Developing specific goals and plans for prioritizing, organizing, and accomplishing individual work and/or the work of the team.
  • Attention to Detail: Thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure that expectations are met. 
  • Initiative: Being proactive with seeking out work that needs to be done and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges. 
  • Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of computers, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Occupational Safety: Using knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, strategies, and judgement to determine whether events or processes compy with laws and regulations to promote standards as well as working to continuously improve processes to ensure safety of all individuals. 

Preferences:

  • Experience working with occupational safety and health standards in an industrial setting.
  • OSHA 511 certification.
