Environmental Managers with Nucor are members of the division leadership team and support Nucor’s mission of safety, sustainability, and profitable operations at our steel mills. They are responsible for the division’s environmental strategy with a focus on building relationships with operations/ maintenance/ administrative departments and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

 

Employees Supervised: Environmental Engineers, Technicians and Safety Director/Coordinator
 

How you will impact Nucor:

Division Compliance:
•    Lead the division in implementing company environmental policy and in developing sustainable, innovative, and cost effective solutions.
•    Monitor for instances of environmental concerns with regard to division activities (e.g., excessive noise, contractor activities, and unusual discharges) and arrange for corrective action where needed.
•    Support the division’s political and community engagement.

 

Environmental Awareness Program:
•    Responsible for the division’s environmental strategy with a focus on building relationships with operations/ maintenance/ administrative departments and continuous improvement.
•    Actively promote Nucor’s mission ensuring that safety is instilled as a value with a strong focus on quality and environmental stewardship.
•    Furthers awareness through teammates and community contacts.

 

Regulatory and Community Outreach:
•    Develop and maintain key regulatory and community contacts to facilitate beyond division compliance objectives.
•    Respond appropriately to citizen and regulatory agency concerns.
•    Interact with state and federal regulators to build trust and respect for the division’s operations.•    Engage with and/or serve on local commissions as large industrial representative.

 

Management Team:
•    Participate with all other division functions by sharing technical expertise, support, and specialized knowledge and skills to achieve division goals and objectives.
•    Mentor and coach direct reports and other teammates to further develop their knowledge, skills and abilities.

Basic Job Functions: Salary Range $155,000 - $275,000 annually

Nucor Steel-Seattle is seeking a leader for the position of Environmental Manager. This Department Manager level position reports directly to the General Manager.  The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•    Leadership role in promoting Nucor’s mission ensuring that Safety is instilled as a value with a strong focus on Quality and Environmental Stewardship.
•    Member of the Nucor Steel leadership team responsible for successfully leading NSSEA’s long term profitable contributions to Nucor.
•    Leadership role in managing the division’s environmental activities including compliance, permitting and relationships with State and Federal environmental agencies.
•    Leadership role in continual improvement of our plant environmental, safety and quality systems.
•    Proven ability to develop team members through training, individual reviews, and coaching sessions.
•    Political and Community Outreach.

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

3 years of environmental leadership experience and / or 3 years of Nucor supervisory experience

Preferences:

•    Heavy industry environmental compliance experience.
•    4-year degree in Environmental Engineering or related field, PE license.
•    Experience with environmental permitting (air, water, waste) 
•    Experience in operations, maintenance, design of waste treatment, water treatment, baghouse, and air scrubbing systems.
