Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Data Systems is seeking a talented and innovative Systems Designer to join our team. The System Designer at Nucor Data Systems (NDS) will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of data infrastructure systems, focusing on mission-critical construction projects such as data centers and industrial facilities. The role involves collaborating with engineers, project managers, and external partners to ensure the seamless design and implementation of efficient and robust systems that meet client requirements.

Job Functions:

  • Create detailed design layouts and schematics for data center (server cabinet) and infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, and architectural systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure design feasibility and alignment with project requirements.
  • Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements for data centers, including safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Identify opportunities for design improvements and innovations to enhance the performance and efficiency of data centers.
  • Create detailed technical drawings and plans based on project specifications and engineering designs.
  • Utilize CAD and Solidworks software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to develop accurate and comprehensive FAB’s.
  • Ensure all drawings adhere to company standards, industry regulations, and client requirements.
  • Maintain organized records of all drawings, revisions, and project documentation.
  • Update and manage project files to ensure easy access and retrieval of information.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on project progress and any issues related to technical drawings.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner
  • Communicate with other teams to get the problem solving.
  • Engage with clients to understand their requirements and present design solutions that meet their needs.
  • Ability to design Data Center racking in collaboration with consultant PE’s.
  • Ability to assist Data Center in layout and take-offs.
  • Educate and train customers on Nucor Data Systems products.
  • Prepare 3D model data center design concepts.
  • Build strong working relationships with Data Center customers
  • Travel to Data Center project sites to perform inspections, as required.
  • Able to travel to industry events as needed.
  • Be a key team member able to interface with all inter-company departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2 – 4 years of experience, design, and/ or customer service experience.
  • A solid understanding of the Data Center Industry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of Mechanical engineering requirements.
  • Proficient using Design Software’s (AutoCAD, Solid Works, and Inventor) 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 – 4 years of experience, design, and/ or customer service experience.
  • A solid understanding of the Data Center Industry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of Mechanical engineering requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 – 4 years’ experience as a Design/ Engineer, development experience within the Data Center sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 proficiency, preferred.
  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree
