Shipping Lead

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Data Systems in San Bernardino is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Shipping Lead. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient flow of finished goods and coordinating all outbound shipping operations. The successful candidate will lead a team focused on accuracy, timeliness, and safety in processing and dispatching shipments that meet and exceed customer expectations.

The Shipping Lead will work closely with internal teams such as production planning, customer service, and logistics partners to ensure shipping schedules are aligned and delivery performance remains a top priority. The ideal candidate leads by example, promotes a strong safety culture, and communicates regularly with both their team and leadership to support divisional goals.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Job Responsibilities

• Oversee daily shipping operations including loading, packaging, documentation and dispatching. 

• Ensure all team members adhere to safety standards, policies, and procedures

• Coordinate with production control and customer service to manage shipping schedules

• Lead and develop a high-performing team with clear expectations and accountability

• Maintain shipping records, verify inventory accuracy, and ensure timely deliveries

• Promote continuous improvement in shipping processes and team performance

• Support and enforce Nucor’s values, including the Big 11 principles

• Participate in and lead safety audits, training, and incident investigations

• Other duties as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5 years of experience in shipping and logistics operations. 
• Familiarity with shipping systems, ERP software, or WMS tools.
• Experience improving shipping KPIs and logistics performance.
• Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Proven experience in leading or supporting a shipping team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior team lead or supervisory experience in a shipping or logistics environment

• Completion of Nucor Leadership Training or participation in PCIP-related programs

• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends as needed.

• Experience working with internal cross-functional teams such as production, customer service, or quality control.
