Basic Job Functions:
The Senior Estimator at Nucor Data Systems oversees all pre-construction estimating activities for data center construction projects. This role prepares accurate cost estimates, bid proposals, and budgets by reviewing project plans, coordinating with project teams and clients, and analyzing subcontractor and supplier pricing. The position also supports value engineering, cost tracking, change orders, and continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.

Job Description
- Oversees all pre-construction estimating activities for data center construction projects.
- Develop detailed cost estimates by reviewing plans, specifications, and performing quantity take-offs.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and deliver accurate estimates.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals to determine the best fit based on project scope, cost, and schedule.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals, budgets, and cost estimates specifically for data center construction projects.
- Maintain and update a comprehensive database of unit costs and historical construction data.
- Review construction documents and drawings to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings to align stakeholders on project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Track and monitor project costs during the pre-construction phase to ensure consistency with initial estimates.
- Provide value engineering solutions to optimize project costs while maintaining quality and performance.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and software.
- Create detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients, outlining estimates and cost breakdowns.
- Stay informed on industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and best practices to ensure accurate and competitive estimating.
- Assist the project management team with preparing change orders and large-scale project revisions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry, preferably within the data center sector.
- Ability to read and interpret construction and fabrication drawings.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and construction estimating software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in cost estimating.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations.
- Ability to build solid relationships with team members, vendors, and customers.
- Ability to travel as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience using design software such as AutoCAD, preferred.
- Certification in estimating or project management (e.g., PMP, AACE).
- Experience in the data center industry, with knowledge of specific requirements and challenges associated with data center construction.
