Basic Job Functions:

The Nucor EHS Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, taking care of our customers by executing the division’s safety, environmental, quality, cost, productivity, and profitability objectives. The EHS Coordinator will be responsible for providing effective professional environmental, health, and safety support to all Nucor teammates to improve and sustain a culture that values safety above all else. The successful candidate will assist in the implementation of loss prevention, safety, health, environmental, security and fire control efforts for all teammates and facilities. Responsibilities also include: working with state and federal safety and environmental regulations, analyzing compliance, implementing best practices, implementing effective communication systems for environmental, safety and health issues, maintaining the safety and environmental management systems, assisting with the development of safe job analysis and safe job procedures, identifying training needs and delivering training, auditing safety and environmental efforts, participating in and/or leading safety focus teams, and coordinating industrial hygiene monitoring. Job Description

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to promote safety awareness.
  • Oversee the management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and disposal.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for scheduled waste pickups and maintain accurate records.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Inspect and maintain safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and AEDs, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
  • Track and manage the inventory of personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring availability and compliance with safety standards.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely reporting and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate records of all incidents and claims for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Identify training needs and develop tailored training programs to enhance safety awareness and compliance.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions for all team members, ensuring understanding and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Maintain training records and ensure all certifications are up to date.
  • Analyze job procedures and work processes to ensure they align with state and federal safety and environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate and lead internal and external audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans, ensuring all team members are trained and prepared.
  • Manage security protocols for all facilities, ensuring the safety and security of personnel and assets.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and local authorities during incidents and drills.
  • Coordinate and lead industrial hygiene monitoring to assess workplace exposures and ensure compliance with health standards.
  • Implement corrective actions based on monitoring results to mitigate health risks.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in EHS roles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Current or previous Certification in First Aid/CPR and OSHA 30-hour training and ability to recertify.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS software applications.

Preferences:

  • Experience working with Safety and Environmental Management Systems and standards in the steel manufacturing environment
  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental, or related field
  • OSHA 30-hour training
  • Certified to conduct OSHA trainings
