Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Towers & Structures Inc, a division of Nucor, the nation's largest recycler and largest manufacturer of steel and steel products, is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Structural Engineer Intern at our business unit located in Rock Hill, SC.  Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Duties of the successful candidate include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in reviewing utility customer drawing packages and specifications.
  • Support the design and analysis of tubular steel utility structures—primarily transmission, distribution, and substation structures—to meet national codes, industry standards, and customer requirements.
  • Learn to use 3D structural modeling software for pole design, along with proprietary calculation tools for component designs.
  • Collaborate with teammates in sales, detailing, project management, and production.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, including other design professionals.
  • Work on-site at the designated office location to engage in team collaboration and mentorship. The work schedule will align with the selected engineering mentor, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience in the transmission and distribution systems industry; utility structure design preferred
  • Experience in steel product design or steel product manufacturing
  • Familiarity with PLS-Pole software
  • Experience in a customer-facing or fast-paced work environment
