Basic Job Functions:

The Supplier Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring that suppliers meet the NTS’s quality standards and product specifications. This role includes evaluating and selecting suppliers, managing supplier quality performance, and collaborating with internal teams to drive continuous improvement. The Specialist will lead audits, address supplier quality issues, and monitor key supply chain metrics to optimize supplier performance and reduce costs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance protocols to ensure supplier compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASCE48, AWS D1.1, ISO 9001).
  • Conduct audits to drive standardization, eliminate waste, and promote continuous improvement within the supply chain.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, manufacturing, purchasing) and suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
  • Track supplier performance through key metrics like On-Time Delivery (OTD), Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO), and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
  • Lead root cause analysis and develop corrective/preventive action (CAPA) plans to address quality concerns.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for supplier quality-related issues.
  • Maintain and report supplier quality performance data, highlighting areas for improvement.
  • Ensure suppliers comply with relevant industry certifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Quality.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience (3-5 years) in supplier quality management, supplier development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with supplier auditing, quality control processes, and corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, including ASCE48, AISC, AWS, and ISO 9001.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills for effective supplier interactions.
  • Proficiency in quality tools like root cause analysis, FMEA, SPC, 8D, and control charts.
  • Ability to work independently, make data-driven decisions, and handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, or Logistics.
  • ASQ certifications (CQE, CQA, CSQP) or similar.
  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications.
