Basic Job Functions:

The Logistics Supervisor will build and lead a high-performing logistics team while developing a clear, measurable vision for how logistics supports Skyline’s customers, operations, and profitability. This leader will establish trusted, long-term relationships with core truck, rail, barge, transload, and logistics partners; use market intelligence and freight data to identify sustainable cost-saving opportunities; and create the processes, capabilities, and accountability needed to execute Skyline’s division-wide logistics strategy

Demonstrated experience building and maintaining strategic relationships with truck carriers and other transportation providers and experience identifying and delivering freight cost savings, cost avoidance, service improvements, or network efficiencies

Proven experience building strategic carrier relationships and using market, lane, and performance data to deliver measurable freight cost savings, reliable capacity, and improved service performance.

Essential Functions:

Carrier Relationship Development and Capacity Strategy

· Build and maintain strategic relationships with core carriers, railroads, barge providers, transload partners, brokers, and third-party logistics providers.

· Establish regular carrier business reviews using service, cost, capacity, tender acceptance, safety, and on-time delivery performance.

· Develop an intentional carrier mix by lane, balancing asset-based, contracted, committed, dedicated, and spot capacity based on Skyline’s service and commercial needs.

· Share forecasts and expected lane volumes with strategic partners to improve planning, capacity availability, and service reliability.

· Hold carriers accountable through clear expectations and fact-based performance discussions while maintaining mutually beneficial long-term partnerships.

· Represent Skyline in carrier meetings, industry events, and Nucor Logistics Group initiatives.

Freight Cost Management and Value Creation

· Identify, quantify, prioritize, and execute freight cost-saving opportunities using lane-level, mode, carrier, accessorial, utilization, and market-rate analysis.

· Develop annual freight improvement objectives and maintain a documented pipeline of cost, service, and capacity opportunities.

· Evaluate contract versus spot pricing, mode conversion, consolidation, backhaul, dedicated capacity, transload, routing, and carrier-allocation opportunities.

· Partner with Nucor Logistics Group, Finance, Commercial, Operations, and facility teams to validate results and ensure savings do not compromise safety, service, or customer commitments.

· Communicate realized savings, cost avoidance, service improvements, and remaining opportunities through recurring scorecards and leadership reporting.

Team Leadership and Organizational Development

· Establish and communicate a clear logistics team vision, operating model, responsibilities, priorities, and measures of success.

· Assess current team capability and create individual development plans that build expertise in carrier management, freight analysis, systems, multimodal transportation, and operational execution.

· Establish regular team operating rhythms, including KPI reviews, carrier strategy reviews, cost-opportunity reviews, and continuous-improvement planning.

· Build a culture of ownership, responsiveness, disciplined execution, collaboration, and constructive accountability.

· Develop future leaders and create sustainable succession coverage for key logistics responsibilities.

· Lead the team through organizational and process changes while maintaining teammate engagement and customer service.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
