Joining Nucor means becoming part of North America's largest steel and steel products manufacturer, offering unmatched career opportunities and stability. We are known for our innovative sustainability practices and are the continent's largest recycler. Experience a workplace where safety, efficiency, and meaningful personal connections define every day, enriching both our teammates and the communities we serve.

We are seeking a UX/UI Designer who owns the user experience end-to-end and has the technical depth to fully implement their designs into working applications for various Innovation Initiatives in the Nucor Building Group’s Innovation team. This is a design-led role with full-stack capability used to accelerate delivery, reduce design-to-build friction on novel and innovative UI elements and interaction designs patterns.

Basic Job Functions:

The UX/UI Designer – Full Stack Intern will support the design and implementation of digital experiences from concept through delivery for POCs. While the primary emphasis is on UX and UI design, the intern will also develop complete frontend and backend solutions for POCs (Proof of concept) with mentorship and collaboration from the broader team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • UX and UI design activities:
    • User flows, wireframes, prototypes, and UI screens
  • Translate designs into functional, responsive user interfaces
  • Develop front-end features using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React.
  • Build supporting backend services and APIs as needed for the experience
  • Work alongside legacy and core development teams to align with existing standards
  • Participate in code reviews and design critiques.
  • Use AI assisted UX Design and development tools to accelerate learning and delivery

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Computer Science, or related field
  • Strong interest in UX/UI design with hands on building
  • Working knowledge of: React JS and/or Angular JS, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3
  • Exposure to backend development concepts using: NET (C#, ASP.NET Core Web API) and/or Python
  • Entity Framework and SQL (academic or project experience acceptable)
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and Gitbased version control
  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and collaborate across disciplines

Depth of expertise is not required - curiosity, design sensibility, and the ability to build and learn are most important.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • UX Design Portfolio or class projects that show: UX/UI design work and something you’ve built
  • Experience completing small projects end-to-end (design → working UI)
  • Exposure to: TypeScript .NET or Python backend concepts, SQL or basic data modeling
  • Interest in using AI-assisted tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to support learning and productivity
  • Interest in enterprise or internal business applications
