Environmental Specialist

Basic Job Functions:

• Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
• Lead the division in maintaining compliance with air, water, and waste regulations, tank management, emergency plans, and environmental management system (EMS) and training.
• Prepare and submit required environmental compliance-related reports to agencies, including but not limited to: Air Emissions Inventory, Annual Waste Summary, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), discharge monitoring reports (DMRs).
• Interact with Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies on permitting, compliance, facility inspections, and outreach.
• Represent Kirby at Corporate and NBG Environmental meetings, training sessions, and plant audits. Moderate travel required.
• Track and submit division metrics as related to corporate requirements/President’s Environmental Award Statistics.
•  Ability to work in a team setting or independently on projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• One year of environmental compliance experience with a focus on regulatory permitting.
• Strong organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future). 

Preferred Qualifications:

• 4-year degree in environmental, health, safety, or related technical field.
• 3+ years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing field
• Ability and desire to promote into a senior-level environmental role at other Nucor divisions.
