Basic Job Functions:
The role of the Lab Technician (Lab Tech) is to provide test results in either the chemistry lab and/or physical lab. In the chemistry lab, the Lab Tech will conduct steel chemistry testing, coordinate production sequencing and maintain accurate inventory in the billet yard. The Lab Tech must be able to accurately record information in a computer database, be proficient with machinery and testing equipment, and must work safely in a team-oriented, fast-paced work environment while remaining focused on quality. In the physical lab, the Lab Tech will perform testing on finished bars from the rolling mill. Tasks include procurement of samples from the mill, dimensional and mechanical tests, operation and maintenance of equipment, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of test data in the computer system.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and scheduled/unscheduled overtime in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of steel industry standards, steel grades, and Quality & Computer Systems.
• Prior Chemistry Lab & Physical Testing Lab experience.
