Maintenance Intern

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Cold Finish Nebraska is seeking a motivated and dependable Maintenance Intern to join our team. This internship offers hands-on experience in general maintenance operations and provides exposure to a variety of tasks that support facility safety, efficiency, and upkeep.  The ideal candidate is eager to learn, works well with others, and is committed to maintaining a safe and positive work environment.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance procedures and equipment safety protocols.
2. Conduct routine inspections and audits of machinery, tools, and facility systems to identify potential safety or operational issues.
3. Participate in troubleshooting and investigations of equipment malfunctions or breakdowns, contributing to root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
4. Support training initiatives related to equipment handling, preventive maintenance, and workplace safety.
5. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Safety, Engineering, and Production—to promote a safe and efficient working environment.
7. Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned by the Maintenance team.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Currently enrolled in trade school or college program (preferred:  industrial technology, engineering, construction, Electro-Mechanical or related field).
2. Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in maintenance or skilled trades.
3. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
4. Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Graduating in May 2027
2. Previous internship or work experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
3. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards, particularly in manufacturing or facility maintenance environments.
4. Proficiency in documenting maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment performance data.
5. Basic understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment commonly used in industrial maintenance.
