Job Responsibilities
Nucor Steel Memphis, Inc., is seeking an Automation Engineer for full-time employment at 3601 Paul R. Lowry Road, Memphis, TN 38109. The Automation Engineer will drive innovation and efficiency in steel production processes across all departments with a focus on automation solutions. Duties include but are not limited to: Leverage engineering principles, algorithms, and automation techniques to troubleshoot, optimize, and automate processes, enhance profitability, and foster a culture of innovation within the organization. Ensure that automation mechanisms effectively transfer reliable information throughout the process, maintaining data integrity and process optimization. Design and monitor performance indicators through interactive reports to bridge production and business requirements, facilitating improved process control in steelmaking. Target improvements in production efficiency, steel quality, sales performance, and process reliability. Develop and optimize stored procedures and triggers for data processing automation and system performance enhancements. Utilize and work with communication protocols for effective integration and communication between automation systems. Modernize legacy software systems and help establish coding standards and best practices to support scalable, maintainable automation solutions. Collaborate with production teams to provide automation tools for decision-making, process enhancements, and project implementation. Lead projects focused on training and building machine learning (ML) models. Develop ML models for quality control and anomaly detection, ensuring adherence to stringent product standards while minimizing waste and rework. Collaborate with production quality, and engineering teams to integrate automation tools with ERP/MES systems and support data-driven decision-making. Pioneer AI-powered predictive maintenance systems, utilizing TensorFlow’s advanced features to analyze real-time sensor data from equipment and enabling proactive maintenance interventions to reduce risk of unplanned downtime and ensure a safer working environment. The position does not supervise employees.
Salary
The position pays a base hourly rate of $20.18 per hour plus production bonuses. The production bonus is paid as an additional rate of pay and is often close to or double the base hourly rate. The compensation will be more than $100,000 per year. Position is further eligible for medical, dental and vision, life and disability insurance, profit sharing, retirement benefits, return on asset bonuses, tuition reimbursement and other standard corporate benefits.
