Basic Job Functions:
The EAF 2nd Helper has responsibilities in all aspects of the Melt Shop process including tapping heats, maintaining the runner and tap hole, electrode additions, furnace operation, operation of the remote charge crane, stocking materials, supporting maintenance tasks, and operation of a fork truck. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to working heats and running steel/slag samples. The qualified candidate must be willing to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends, as required.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Commitment to safety as number one priority each shift.
- Must be able to meet the requirements for crane and mobile equipment operation
- EAF Experience
- Must have the ability to perform all tasks at the EAF
- Must have knowledge of steel grades, chemistries, and slags
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience in steel industry
• Strong Mechanical Skills
