Truck Scale Operator

What You'll Do:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

The Scale Operator is responsible for accurately weighing and purchasing inbound scrap, obtaining required customer information, and completing purchasing and shipping documentation. This role also helps control traffic patterns in the yard, performs general office administration duties, and provides excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

• • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Weigh and purchase inbound scrap, obtaining required information from customers for all transactions and completing purchasing and shipping documents.
  • Control traffic patterns in the yard.
  • Perform general office administration duties.
  • Serve as a back-up cashier, greeter, and possibly other positions as needed.
  • Cross-train in other positions and assist other teammates as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

What We're Looking For:

• Required:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn the scrap metal recycling industry.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and multitask.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word and the ability to learn in-house systems.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and outdoors in various weather conditions.

   

  Preferred:

  • 2 years of previous customer service experience.
  • Scrap knowledge is a plus.
