Basic Job Functions:

The Sales Engineer will serve as a technical leader responsible for advanced quality analysis, customer relationship management, and complex problem resolution. This position requires extensive technical expertise to investigate customer claims and contribute to effective corrective and preventative actions.  The successful candidate will interface directly with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve quality issues that affect company relationships and product performance.  The position is within the Sales Department. 

Key responsibilities include delivering customer feedback to production teams, providing product recommendations based on technical analysis, and working with various departments to optimize finished product quality.  The role may involve coordinating customer specification reviews and documentation processes while participating in new product development initiatives.  The role may also involve participation in industry committees focused on codes and product standards development, representing the company's technical expertise in professional forums.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in quality engineering, technical service, or materials analysis roles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work with complex technical data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for customer and management interactions
  • Ability and willingness to travel for customer visits, supplier audits, and technical conferences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and industrial equipment
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to participate in rotating on-call support for urgent customer issues
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma
  • Application engineering experience with formability, welding, fatigue, coatings, corrosion, or non-destructive testing (NDT)
  • Steel industry experience
  • Background in tubular manufacturing or related industrial processes
  • Experience participating in industry standards committees (NEMA, NFPA, STI, etc.)
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical products that interface with steel electrical conduit
