Basic Job Functions:
Nucor Steel Lexington is seeking a Hot Metal Crane Operator to join our team. This role is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the ladle crane while supporting Melt Shop operations. This role offers the chance to expand your skills within a dynamic environment, with opportunities to advance into specialized automation roles and leadership positions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the ladle crane to handle ladles in the hot metal aisle.
- Assist maintenance team in maintaining and servicing the crane.
- Plan and execute crane movements efficiently and safely.
- Support other Melt Shop operations as required.
- Obtain and maintain the crane certification.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, cooperation, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain strict adherence to Nucor’s safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards always.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least one year of overhead crane experience.
- Candidate should have a passion for continuous learning, adaptability in fast-paced environments, and a proactive approach to technical challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of the basic steel-making process.
- Understanding of industrial safety standards and compliance protocols.
- Experience operating overhead cranes, preferably in a steel mill or similar industrial environment.
- Familiarity with L2 WMS, L1 systems (including HMI screens, positioning monitoring with encoders and radars, and wireless network), and CCTV camera operations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
