Environmental Engineer

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Lexington is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Environmental Engineer.  Nucor Steel Lexington will be Nucor’s third rebar micro mill.  The mill will have an annual capacity of 430,000 tons and employ approximately 200 full-time teammates when fully operational in 2025. 

The environmental engineer is responsible for the environmental compliance at the division. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining compliance with all environmental requirements, implementation and management of environmental programs (air, water, waste, radiation) including permitting and reporting, education and training of the team, engaging with the plant wide team for solutions to problems and promote continual improvement, and participate in community outreach initiatives.  In addition, safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor, therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, chemical engineering or related field
• Minimum two years’ experience in an environmental/engineering related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in environmental compliance, permitting, reporting.
• Solid understanding of water treatment systems and air pollution control operations.
• Experience with ISO 14001 or related management system.
• Experience related to manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience related RCRA waste generation, storage, and proper disposal.
