Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Lexington is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Engineering Supervisor. Duties include:

  • Manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities for engineering projects. 
  • Oversee the planning and direct the installation and testing of Overhead Cranes, Electric Arc Furnaces, and Danieli equipment in steel-making plants.
  • Manage and lead interdisciplinary teams of engineering professionals in the development of innovative equipment and automation solutions for steel mills.
  • Review the design, development, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Danieli Yard Management Systems (YMS), PLC-based systems, HMI interfaces, data acquisition technologies, and SCADA systems.
  • Develop and implement innovation strategies for new equipment and process improvements.
  • Oversee the technical design for optical fiber network ring, optical fiber type, and accessories for the optimal communication between steel mill automation and control systems.
  • Review, recommend, or approve contracts or cost estimates.
  • Review project plans to determine feasibility and commissioning schedule for automation systems for DRI and steel production.
  • Responsible for developing the complete engineering package including overhead cranes automation, ground automation and network.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of industrial automation systems used in steel production.
  • Develop and implement automation strategies for new equipment and process improvements.
  • Responsible for the project management and maintenance for the crane automation, including first fully automatic rebar bundle and spool handling.
  • Work with data acquisition systems for process monitoring and performance analysis.
  • Support the development of commissioning schedule and test plan for automation systems.
  • Collaborating with maintenance, operations, and electrical teams to troubleshoot and resolve automation-related issues.
  • Perform administrative functions, such as reviewing or writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, or purchasing of materials or services.
  • Ensure systems comply with safety standards and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Provide documentation, training, and support for control systems and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Automation Engineering and 7 years of experience in planning and directing the installation and testing of Overhead Cranes, Electric Arc Furnaces, and Danieli equipment in steel-making plants.
  • Must have experience in:
    • Managing and leading interdisciplinary teams of engineering professionals in the development of innovative equipment and automation solutions for steel mills.
    • Designing, developing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Danieli Yard Management Systems (YMS), PLC-based systems, HMI interfaces, data acquisition technologies, and SCADA systems.
    • Designing technical specifications for optical fiber network ring, optical fiber type, and accessories for the optimal communication between steel mill automation and control systems.
    • Studying project plans to determine feasibility and commissioning schedule for automation systems for DRI and steel production.
  • Alternatively, if no Bachelor’s degree, will accept one year of additional directly related experience for each year not completed towards a Bachelors degree (11 years total). Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.
