Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Texas is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Safety Coordinator. The successful candidate will be a leader with direct responsibility for driving a safe work culture and supporting and developing the Nucor Texas safety program. Qualified candidates should be able to demonstrate their knowledge of OSHA compliance with federal, state & local regulations. They will work closely with leaders and teammates within the company to conduct & coordinate safety meetings, participate in and/or lead safety focus groups, and coordinate safety policies/programs, including the Central Health and Safety teams. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
   Responsibilities:
•    Provides technical safety and health support and information to the organization.
•    Prepares written safety and health programs and policies.
•    Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations.
•    Ensures proper documentation, record keeping, and statistics are maintained.
•    Aids in incident investigations and prepares appropriate OSHA documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

•    1-3 years of environmental, health or safety compliance experience; or applicable education in lieu of experience.
•    Working knowledge of safety management systems.
•    Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or equivalent experience.
•    Previous steel industry or manufacturing experience. 
•    Strong organizational skills and written and verbal communication skills.   
•    First Responder/EMT certification or willingness to obtain.
•    Industrial Hygiene and Behavior-Based Safety culture experience.
•    OSHA Voluntary Protection Program experience.
