Product Development Metallurgist

Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Product Development Metallurgist includes but is not limited to the following:

• Leading research and development initiatives of new or existing steel grades including hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized/galvannealed, and other coated products.
• Coordinating and conducting trials/interfacing with operations, technical, and commercial teams.
• Directing and coordinating all testing initiatives, both internally and with 3rd party laboratories and/or universities.
• Leading qualification efforts of new and existing products with automotive OEM’s and other tier 1 suppliers.
• Supporting customer technical services including direct contact with customers.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Material Science, or equivalent.
• 5 years of related engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• M.S./Ph.D. in Metallurgy or Material Science.
• Prior experience in sheet steel making, refining, continuous casting, hot/cold rolling, and galvanizing.
• Automotive steel related experience.
• Proven track record of problem solving and process improvements.
