Basic Job Functions:

SUMMARY:

The Powder Coat Operator/Painter is responsible for the application of powder paint using electrostatic spray guns to various Rytec door parts and components and determining the acceptable condition of parts and quality level required. Additional responsibilities include helping to prep and correctly hang all required industrial door parts onto a conveyor line system using the appropriate hangers. The Painter may also have to assist in the removal of the parts once fully cured. Finished painted parts will then be staged onto the proper carts according to each door number which will then feed into the final assembly stations.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for complete paint coverage of all materials entering the spray booth.
  • Must be able to make paint color changes in a timely manner.
  • Participate in housekeeping efforts of paint booth and surrounding areas.
  • Loads parts on overhead conveyor system as directed.
  • Report obvious defects in raw materials to supervisor before part passes to next stage.
  • Ability to keep lead and manager informed of paint inventory to avoid down time from lack of paint supplies.
  • Ability to identify all parts and comprehend what parts go to what door models.
  • Responsible to accurately count the materials being loaded onto conveyor and determine if the actual quantity matches production orders.
  • Follow written and verbal directions as to how materials should be properly hung on the conveyor.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Manipulates spray gun to properly coat parts to meet quality specifications. Maintains the spraying pattern as instructed by the Production Line Supervisor and/or Lead Sprayer.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Maintains, cleans, and repairs equipment as instructed by the Operations Supervisor.
  • Responsible for keeping spray gun clean by paying particular attention to the fluid nozzle and air cap.
  • Dismantles, cleans, inspects, and determines production readiness of all equipment.
  • Replaces high maintenance items as necessary.
  • Reports any maintenance malfunctions to Operations Supervisor or Maintenance Technician.
  • Must have excellent product knowledge.
  • Responsible for prepping of product by using grinders, sanders and cleaners.
  • Correctly load and unload paint line using appropriate hangers.
  • Use of schedule provided by Supervisor.
  • Packaging product for safe transport to final assembly department.
  • Deliver finished product to appropriate departments.
  • Must be able to multi-task during busy time, stay productive, and work well with others on the team.
  • Use time management skills and prioritization to accomplish the day's tasks within the hours provided.

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work the weekend shift schedule of Friday - Sunday from 5:00am - 5:00pm. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be self-motivated and a team player.
  • Persistent, upbeat, positive, high energy, and thrives in a dynamic atmosphere of change.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, reach and perform repetitive hand and finger movements.
  • Must be able to pass general respirator medical evaluation.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat and cold.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, occasionally loud.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of powder coat paint line experience highly desired.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
