Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Lead Automation Engineer is primarily, but not limited to: 1) Improve Safety 2) Support Manufacturing and Maintenance Operations 3) Focus on continuous improvement of our technical knowledge and skills 4) Ensure high reliability for our Technological Infrastructure to drive business results. 5) Work with the Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance and Production teams to maintain and optimize the production processes.

 

Must have the ability to work or travel on an as needed basis, which may include nights, weekends, holidays.

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science; Process, Electrical, or Automation Engineering; or equivalent work experience in automation, robotics and controls.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, integrating, commissioning,  and troubleshooting industrial automated lines.
  • 5+ years in PLCs & HMI installation, configuration, development, troubleshooting & support
  • 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional technical efforts through planning, technical requirement development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Working knowledge on AC & DC Motors and Drives.
  • Experience in Industrial Communication Protocols across manufacturing data layers, network setup and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in Design, Installation, Maintenance and/or Commissioning of complex Control systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in the industrial welding or metal forming processes.
  • Knowledge of ISA-95 Information Layers
  • Experience in Software development
  • Experience in IoT for Manufacturing Environment.
  • Leadership experience.
