Responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer may include but are not limited to:
The role of the Electrical Engineer is to coordinate both short and long-term strategies to ensure safe and reliable operation of our facility. This individual will assist with root cause analysis, determining/implementing corrective actions, developing specifications for equipment and projects, and training of plant personnel on all systems within plant. Works closely with various departments and engineering disciplines to deliver projects on time and within budget for both large and small capital improvement projects.

Ideal candidate must:

  • Have knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures.
  • Be reliable, responsible, and committed to fulfilling obligations.
  • Have knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Have knowledge of (basic) electrical theory, including (basic) troubleshooting, installation, repair and/or maintenance of electronic equipment.
  • Have knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to work at hand.
  • Be proactive with seeking out work that needs to be done and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges to include introducing new ideas for the continuous improvement of the work area.
  • Be able to identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options in order to choose the most appropriate solution.
  • Have the ability to work efficiently with minimal oversight.
  • Support operations by responding to technical questions and engineering requests.
  • Perform technical analysis, testing, and electrical calculations for power and control systems.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years of experience in project engineering including creating electrical drawings, job scopes, and supervising vendors & contractors in new construction and retrofits.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools, particularly AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Knowledge of PLC, HMI, and motor drive systems such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and GE.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with High Voltage distribution and maintenance.
  • Experience developing electrical system drawings including single-line diagrams, block diagrams, layout drawings, electrical schematics, and interconnection diagrams.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward PE license is a plus.
  • Experience with high-voltage systems specifications and electrical calculations is a plus
