Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

  • Assists with the development of facility specific procedures (i.e., JHA’s, Hazard assessments, LOTO) as processes are implemented.
  • Keeps Safety Engineers, and site management informed of safety items as they arise.
  • Audits site for safety and health compliance; follows up to correct deficiencies.
  • Promotes Near Miss and Incident reporting, ensuring the lessons learned from these are shared appropriately and corrective actions completed.
  • Works with plant core teams to investigate accidents and incidents.
  • Trains teammates on safety related items and ensure comprehension.
  • Analyzing key metrics such as incident trends, near misses, behavior observations and audit findings
  • Make field visits to coach teammates, conduct safety inspections, and complete special projects.
  • Enforces safety rules and helps develop good employee safety attitudes.
  • Ensures all documentation and record-keeping is properly filled out and on site.
  • Support Workers Compensation claims and work with case managers on claim management and plan of action.
  • Ability to travel 20% to other locations across the country.
  • Supports the Safety Engineers team for all other projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree – Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or closely related field OR 2-3 years of operation experience with a desire to expand their education into the Safety field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and/or through written communication with all levels of personnel within the Company and with Federal, State, and local safety regulators.
  • Experience in a Construction or manufacturing safety environment
  • Ability to organize daily tasks and to work in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a construction atmosphere.
  • Experience using personal computers in a work environment for spreadsheet and document presentation. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish.
