Basic Job Functions:

 

This position is an exciting opportunity to join a Greenfield plant, help build a culture of quality, and contribute to the success of Nucor's Expand Beyond platform. 

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing inspections and testing activities to ensure products meet applicable customer specifications, industry standards, and Nucor Towers & Structures quality requirements. This role supports quality assurance efforts through inspection, documentation review, nonconformance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. 

 

 

 Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Perform visual, dimensional, and non-destructive inspections as required by customer specifications, industry standards, and company procedures. 
  • Verify compliance with applicable codes, standards, drawings, work instructions, and customer requirements. 
  • Assist in identifying, documenting, and containing nonconforming material. 
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action activities. 
  • Complete required inspection records, reports, and quality documentation accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Assist with conducting audits of products, processes, and documentation to verify compliance with quality requirements. 
  • Utilize measuring and testing equipment to verify product conformance. 
  • Communicate quality concerns and inspection results to production and management teams. 
  • Support training efforts related to quality procedures, inspection methods, and proper use of measuring equipment. 
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC). 
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of quality management system requirements. 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Quality Leadership. 
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, customer specifications, procedures, and quality standards. 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on inspection results and established requirements. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AISC, ISO, or other Quality Management Systems. 
  • Experience performing inspections in a structural steel fabrication environment. 
  • NDT Level II certifications in: 
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT Shear Wave) 
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) 
  • Visual Testing (VT) 
  • AMPP CIP Level 1 certification. 
  • Toe Crack Inspection experience (UT/MT). 
  • Experience with coatings inspection, galvanizing inspection, or related quality processes. 
  • Working knowledge of: AWS D1.1; ASTM standards applicable to coatings and galvanizing
