Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

 

The Design Engineer is responsible for designing open web steel joists and ensuring that all products meet the design requirements for a wide range of projects, from small gas stations to large athletic stadiums and multimillion-square-foot warehouses across the country. This position is based at the Dallas Vulcraft sales office and supports Vulcraft Texas through independent design work, strong communication, and scheduled travel to Grapeland. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform design work in accordance with industry standards and Vulcraft manufacturing processes.
  • Review contract documents, including structural drawings, architectural drawings, and project specifications.
  • Prepare, review, and support joist design calculations, including projects requiring sealed calculations as appropriate.
  • Provide direction and technical support to detailers, shop orders, sales teammates, and production teammates during project design and development.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, including other design professionals, while maintaining timely response to project and production needs.
  • Complete an initial plant immersion at Vulcraft Texas in Grapeland and participate in regular plant visits for production observation, training, and collaborative design reviews.
  • Promote Vulcraft products to specifiers and at conventions.

The selected Design Engineer will be required to work at the Grapeland location for their first two weeks and visit the Grapeland location quarterly thereafter.

 

This is an experienced Design Engineer position. Candidates with structural steel design experience and an active Professional Engineer (PE) license are encouraged to apply!

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)

Minimum 4 years of structural engineering experience in steel construction

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license

Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate effectively, written and verbal

Ability to work from Dallas Vulcraft sales office and travel regularly to the Grapeland plant
