Basic Job Functions:

The Galvanizing QC Specialist is responsible for ensuring all galvanized products meet Nucor quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry specifications prior to shipment. The position supports safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations through inspection, testing, documentation, employee training, and continuous improvement activities.

Essential Job Duties:

• Perform final inspection of galvanized products prior to shipment. • Verify products are free from uncoated areas, acid spots, lumps, projections, globules, edge tears, spikes, and excessive zinc deposits. • Measure coating thickness and document results in accordance with established quality procedures. • Conduct inspections in accordance with ASTM A123/A123M and customer-specific requirements. • Inspect hardware and related products in accordance with ASTM A153/A153M when applicable. • Calibrate coating-thickness gauges and maintain calibration records. • Review work orders, drawings, and specifications to determine inspection requirements. • Identify, segregate, document, and communicate nonconforming material. • Maintain inspection, production, and quality records. • Apply inspection status identification and release approved material for shipment. • Train and evaluate employees in quality-related processes. • Support continuous improvement initiatives. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Knowledge of ASTM galvanizing standards.

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and within a team environment. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with coating-thickness (mil) gauges.

• Experience with quality management systems.

• Experience reading manufacturing drawings and specifications.

• Prior galvanizing and manufacturing experience.
