Basic Job Functions:
The Galvanizing Process Engineer is responsible for overseeing process chemicals, acid recovery operations, and quality standards within the Galvanizing Department. This role plays a key part in supporting the plant’s operational objectives by optimizing process performance, maintaining environmental compliance, and driving continuous improvement efforts.
This position also ensures compliance with safety protocols, oversees chemical storage and boiler/chiller systems, and supports training and development of teammates in the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for all HDG (Hot-Dip Galvanizing) units and report process performance to senior leadership.
- Manage and improve statistical systems that define product and process capabilities.
- Conduct daily and weekly titrations; maintain galvanizing bath chemistry.
- Develop and maintain a kettle maintenance program.
- Identify and implement best practices for zinc savings.
- Oversee sulfuric acid recovery operations and chemical distribution systems.
- Record and track galvanizing process residues for regulatory compliance.
- Ensure all products meet or exceed quality standards and required inspections are completed.
- Maintain accurate documentation for production reporting, time tracking, and environmental recordkeeping.
- Support new employee onboarding and safety training within the department.
- Lead or participate in Safety Leadership Team meetings and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain safe and clean working conditions and enforce proper use of PPE at all times.
- Act as a project lead or team champion to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in batch galvanizing operations (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role within an industrial setting.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance, and labor standards
