Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel Indiana is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Environmental Compliance Supervisor. The Environmental Compliance Supervisor will have a leadership role in safety, team development, and the overall strategic direction of the division's environmental requirements. This role will safely and effectively lead a team of environmental engineers for the Nucor Steel Indiana division. This position reports to the Environmental Manager.

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervision of the team's daily tasks. Management of the plant's various control devices. Working with and building relationships across departments to ensure a mutual understanding of environmental compliance requirements. Implementation and operation of environmental programs. Lead teams in maximizing a division's assets and profitability. Create action plans for the development of team members. Effectively managing and resolving conflict as needed. Assist the Environmental Manager as needed with day-to-day management of the environmental department. Support production teams during outages and capital project upgrades. Communicate with regulatory agencies and community leaders as necessary to submit environmental reporting, address deviations, facilitate agency inspections and address notices of non-compliance. Interpret impacts to business from current and emerging environmental regulatory requirements at all levels including Federal, State, County, City, etc. Identify environmental issues that require capital expenditure, assist in the preparation of funding requests, and lead the implementation of the chosen solution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. H.S. Diploma with 8 years; relevant experience of 4-year degree in Engineering, Environmental or other related science.
  2. 5+ years of technical experience with proven leadership skills and abilities.
  3. Extensive Title V air permitting experience.
  4. Experience interfacing and serving as the company representative with local regulatory agencies, community leaders and legislators.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Ability to deal with complex EHS situations.
  2. Extensive environmental regulatory experience in air, water, and waste.
  3. Project management experience.
  4. RSO certification.
  5. High knowledge base of state and federal environmental regulations and standards applicable to the steel making process; and gathering data for developing and submitting compliance reports required by applicable regulatory agencies.
  6. Mobility is highly preferred for this leadership position.
