We are looking to add an experienced Community Relations & Public Affairs Director to our Nucor Steel Louisiana team. The successful candidate must be a strategic, proactive advocate with a proven track record of community engagement with the ability to understand and articulate complex business issues with key stakeholders in the community as well as local, state, and federal government officials. Our team is a fast-paced, innovative, passionate, and enthusiastic group that strives to support our Nucor teammates every day.

 

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the local management team to identify, develop, and implement or sustain initiatives that increase company visibility in the local area.
  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies that inform and educate the public on issues of importance to the company.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with collaborative partners and key stakeholders, including local policymakers, businesses, community members and business groups.
  • Foster goodwill and build trust with partners, including Community Advisory Panels.
  • Facilitate group meetings and forums with internal and external stakeholders pertinent to specific topics and agendas.
  • Serve as a key point of contact and liaison for local residents, business leaders, government officials/contacts, law enforcement, and customers; as appropriate.
  • Work with the local senior management team to develop proactive communication material to distribute and utilize locally and on social media.
  • Work with Public Affairs and Corporate Communications to monitor and provide company input on local community and local policy developments that may impact the company.
  • Function as a key player in supporting communications during a crisis event and drills.
  • Prepare an annual budget for community outreach activities.
  • Work with corporate [Giving], provide input on local perspectives, implement and communicate locally regarding site contribution program, including to educate teammates on community volunteer opportunities.
  • Serve on external board(s) or committee(s) to represent and promote Nucor interests or otherwise support such activities as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and company policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of experience in community relations or public affairs
  • Experience leading and developing community or political strategies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Established relationships with state-level policymakers and staff.
  • Knowledge of the steel industry, recycling policy, and/or environmental regulatory issues.
  • Background in government affairs within a corporation, trade association, or legislative office. 
  • Experience collaborating with corporate functions, such as Legal and/or Investor Relations.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex legislative and regulatory processes. Familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes at the state-level.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and influence policy outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-pasted, team-oriented environment.
