Basic Job Functions:

The Accountant will play a crucial role in all accounting functions for NLG’s rail business as well as NLG’s freight payment solution implemented across the enterprise. Other responsibilities include:
- Manage NLG’s freight payment solution, working with divisions, carriers, and IT as needed to solve any accounts payable issues
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, compiling reports and schedules
- Work with divisions across the enterprise to complete intercompany billing and reconcile differences as necessary
- Participate in business meetings and provide data or reporting as necessary
- Review A/R aging and work with business partners to resolve past due transactions
- Oversee cash application process for accuracy and timeliness
- Provide assistance and support for all accounting functions within the company as necessary
- Collaborate with business partners to complete special projects as necessary, including systems implementations, ad hoc analysis, or cash flow analysis

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related discipline or minimum two years of experience in an accounting environment
- Ability to adapt to changes in work priorities
- Excellent communication skills
- Microsoft Word and Excel experience required
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and profitability
- Proven communication skills both verbal and written, organization and planning skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Previous experience in a Finance or Accounting role
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers
- Oracle and/or D365 experience is a plus
- Strong Excel skills and/or Power BI Experience
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to a variety of tasks, and perform work with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to efficiently manage workloads and recognize priorities
- Strong organizational skills
