Basic Job Functions:
The Logistics Coordinator responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Coordinating and scheduling inbound and outbound shipments across truck, rail, and barge modes to ensure on-time delivery and pickup;
• Serving as the primary point of contact for carriers, freight brokers, contract service providers, and internal teammates regarding shipment statuses, delays, and problem resolutions;
• Monitoring daily transportation activity, tracking shipments, and updating ERP/TMS systems with accurate information;
• Ensuring compliance with DOT, FRA, and maritime regulations, as well as company policies for safety and environmental standards;
• Optimizing transportation routes, modes, and carrier utilization to minimize cost and maximize efficiency;
• Managing freight documentation (i.e., bills of lading, customs forms, and barge manifests);
• Resolving service issues such as delays, equipment shortages, or damaged cargo through proactive communication and problem-solving;
• Forecasting equipment and service needs to align with long-term scheduling and shipping requirements;
• Collaborating with supply chain, commercial, operations, shipping, and inventory teams to align transportation schedules with operational needs;
• Monitoring performance of logistics processes by tracking and reporting using established metrics;
• Assisting in carrier performance evaluations; and
• Supporting continuous improvement by recommending and supporting process improvements using Lean and Six Sigma principles for logistics processes.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• Working knowledge of truck, rail, and barge shipping practices and regulations
• Experience with ERP and/or TMS systems
• Proficiency using Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Track record of continual growth and development
Preferred Qualifications:
• 1-2 years logistics experience in a manufacturing setting
• Knowledge of CRM systems
• 2-3 years working in a customer service role (e.g., retail, manufacturing, e-Procurement)
