What You'll Do:
UIG is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Plant Manager for our Air Separation Unit (ASU) located at our Nucor Steel Arkansas ASU located in Blytheville, AR. This role will involve overseeing the operations, maintenance, and safety of all plant systems, ensuring production targets are met, and contributing to the continuous improvement of plant performance. The Assistant Plant Manager will work closely with the Plant Manager and other key stakeholders to ensure reliable operations, efficiency, and safety compliance at the ASU.
Operational Support:
- Assist the Plant Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the ASU, ensuring that production goals and safety standards are consistently met.
- Coordinate the operations of air separation processes, including monitoring and optimizing plant performance.
- Supervise and manage plant staff to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable operation of the facility.
- Support the Plant Manager in the execution of plant projects, including upgrades, equipment installations, and process optimization.
- Assist in project planning, budgeting, and tracking progress to ensure on-time and within-budget completion.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing reports related to plant performance, maintenance, safety, and operational issues.
Maintenance and Equipment Oversight:
- Monitor the maintenance and troubleshooting of critical plant systems, including cryogenic equipment, compressors, pumps, and electrical systems.
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance and ensure that all equipment is functioning according to specifications.
- Ensure that all plant assets are regularly serviced, and that maintenance documentation is kept up to date.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, such as HMB, PID’s and PFD’s as they relate to the air separation process
Quality Control:
- The APM acts is the lead member of the QCU
- Ensure all production processes meet quality standards and regulatory requirements by implementing and monitoring quality control procedures.
- Review plant performance and quality metrics to identify improvements and address discrepancies promptly.
- Responsible for maintenance of the facility’s Quality Management System (QMS).
- Conduct training for all personnel on QMS policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
- Thorough understanding of process analyzers and quality control equipment used in air separation processes.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that the plant operates in compliance with all safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry standards.
- Support the development, implementation, and review of plant safety protocols and procedures.
- Track employee progress and maintain up-to-date training records, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Ensure that operational logs, maintenance records, and regulatory compliance documentation are complete and accurate.
Team Leadership and Training:
- Supervise, train, and mentor plant operators and other staff, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
- Develop and deliver training programs to ensure staff are properly trained in plant operations, safety protocols, and quality control measures.
What You'll Need:
- High School Diploma or GED. Technical degree is preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in an operations, technical, or management role within a continuous process plant, or relevant military experience. Industrial gas industry experience preferred.
- Advanced understanding and hands-on experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cryogenic air separation plants, including associated equipment and technologies.
- Strong knowledge of electrical principles applied to the operation and repair of complex electrical systems commonly found in air separation plants. Proven expertise in mechanical system maintenance, with experience utilizing asset management tools to optimize plant performance and reliability.
- Availability to occasionally work nights, weekends and holidays and be on-call as required.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Comfortable working safely at heights up to 200 feet and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to use basic hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, etc., to perform maintenance and repairs.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience using and maintaining tools and equipment for the repair and replacement of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems in an industrial setting.
- Hands-on experience with standard automation software, control system programming, and human-machine interface (HMI) systems, including troubleshooting and optimizing these systems for improved plant operations.
- Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with process and plant equipment, while swiftly developing and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Experience in training plant personnel on operational procedures, quality control practices, and effective instrument calibration and maintenance techniques to ensure consistent performance and adherence to standards.
- Familiarity with water treatment technologies and the principles of industrial refrigeration systems, with an understanding of their integration into air separation processes.
