Basic Job Functions:

Collaborate with the Process Control, Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance and Production teams to maintain and optimize the Hot/Cold Mill process control automation equipment. Design, implement, and optimize process improvement plans to improve operability and reliability. Utilize engineering principles, algorithms and techniques to trouble-shoot and improve both the process and equipment Develop/implement future improvement plans. Improve and maintain process models to ensure customer expectations are met. Develop, maintain, and enhance process software and human machine interface applications. Analyze, modify and improve programming, installation and technical support using Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) systems, including Siemens, Allen Bradley, WonderWare InTouch, or WinCC. Perform system administration, support, and troubleshooting for Process Control networks and infrastructure. Perform system administration and design of process databases. Prepare hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, mechanical schematic, and foundation diagram interpretation. Take a lead role in problem solving application, network, and infrastructure problems. Design, integrate, develop, and implement tools and technologies for use in automation and robotics. Prepare calibration and verification of electrical control and automation equipment and instruments. Design, develop, and implement control systems (hardware & software) to improve production times, steel quality, equipment performance, energy consumption, down-time reduction, and process automation. Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, upgrade, and support Nucor’s automation, power distribution HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces) and data systems. Work with teammates to solve issues, troubleshoot, develop process improvements and implement projects. Write requirements, specifications, and high-level design and systems architecture specifications related to control of steel production processes. Design and monitor performance indicators and create the necessary bridges between the control site and company information systems. Provide on-going maintenance support and resolution of process control system problems, including taking ownership of such problems until completion. Assist in the optimization and improvement of the industrial plant process control solutions to meet business requirements. Perform routine and corrective maintenance on motors, controllers and process measuring devices within a steel manufacturing plan. Recommend, specify, engineer, and implement electrical control and automation upgrades to improve process control steelmaking. 5% international and domestic travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering or directly related engineering field and five (5) years of experience in automation and process control within a steelmaking facility.  Experience must include: Designing, implementing and optimizing process improvement plans to improve
operability and reliability in a steel manufacturing environment; Programming, installation and technical support using Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, including Siemens, Allen Bradley, WonderWare InTouch, or WinCC; Preparing hydraulic, pneumatic, electric and electronic, mechanical schematic, and foundation diagram interpretation; Performing routine and corrective maintenance on motors, controllers and process measuring devices within a steel manufacturing plan; and Preparing calibration and verification of electrical control and automation equipment and instruments. 5 % international and domestic travel.
