Basic Job Functions:

The Lead Lab Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to, the oversight and Safety of the quality sample harvesting and testing operations, the continuous improvement of our safety culture, shift performance, project coordination, and teammate development, while working as a team with other Quality Department leadership.  The Lead Lab Technician will be expected to be a positive problem solver who leads by example and is capable performing multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively communicating with all NYS Departments to facilitate collaboration while demonstrating a commitment to fairness, team and individual development, continual improvement, cost awareness and control, and innovation.  The Lead Lab Technician must have experience with electronic data entry and be able to obtain information utilizing various computer software QMOS, Bluehill, etc.  This position requires the ability to prioritize job tasks and workload assignments for the team.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

One year of experience in the operation, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of Lab equipment to include large and small band saws, cut-off saws, CNC milling machines, hand grinders, oxy-fuel and plasma cutting torches, and chain conveyors and roll lines.

One year of experience in the mechanical testing (Charpy V-Notch, Tensile, Interlock, and Hardness Testing) of structural steel products per ASTM sampling and testing requirements to include equipment setup, sample harvesting, sample preparation, and sample testing.

Computer experience with the ability to navigate through the QMS system, research testing issues in QMOS, and enter requisitions in IProc, and operating knowledge of the Bluehill tensile software.

Preferences:

Three years’ experience in the mechanical testing of structural steel products per ASTM sampling and testing requirements

Three years’ experience with the operation, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of torches, band saws, CNC machines, Instron Tensile Testing Equipment and Tinius Olsen Charpy Impact Testing Equipment

One year of leadership experience
