Basic Job Functions:

The Safety Coordinator will be a leader in coordinating safety as a value connected with the passion that safety is our number one priority and there is never a compromise for safety whether at work or at home throughout the division. They will have knowledge and participate in OSHA compliance, safety management system, workers’ compensation, ergonomic compliance, and perform field industrial hygiene monitoring when necessary.  They will work with our team to develop and administer safety training, participate in and/or lead safety focus groups, industrial hygiene team, maintain safety/health/incident records, establish safety policies to promote team member safety at all levels, track safety data, and use analytical tools to identify opportunities for improvement and work with our team to maintain our Safety Management System, programs and compliance issues. Interacting with all division teammates to ensure plant understanding of and compliance with federal, state and local regulations; Developing, organizing and delivering safety training; Compiling, reviewing and reporting injury/illness statistics and OSHA 300 logs. They will also assist with the coordination of first responders, emergency response teams, audit and monitor contractor safety programs. This position may be required to be on call, work nights, weekends and holidays as needed and some travel.  Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in industrial safety, preferably in steel, manufacturing, construction, or utilities
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926 standards
  • Experience managing contractor safety during turnarounds, outages, or capital projects
  • Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills
  • Ability to coach and enforce safety expectations in a high-risk environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems
  • Must be able to work outdoors and in physically demanding environments

Preferences:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHST, or other relevant credential
  • ISO 45001 or OSHA VPP experience
  • Industrial Hygienist
  • Paramedic/EMT
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous projects effectively.
  • A high degree of motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze data and think strategically.
  • Ability to work on several projects at once.
  • A self-starter, energetic with enthusiasm that is motivating to others.
