Basic Job Functions:
Nucor Steel Birmingham Inc. is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Metallurgist. Principal duties of the successful candidate will include:
- Participating in safety and housekeeping efforts
- Lead process optimization activities, both quality and cost
- Provide technical support and training for all operational activities
- Lead product development based upon customer and regulatory requirements Perform root cause analysis on product failures and defects
- Utilizing statistical process control tools to direct continuous improvement activities
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in materials science, metallurgical, industrial, chemical engineering or equivalent steel making experience
- 2+ years Metallurgy or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with customer order inquiries, technical specifications, failure analysis, and complaint resolution
- Proficiency in Office Programs and Statistical data analysis tools
- Hot Rolling and EAF Melting experience
