Basic Job Functions:
The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for keeping the C.H.I. Overhead Doors trucking fleet safe, compliant, and operational. Working from a DOT preventive maintenance schedule and responding to day-to-day repair needs from our in-house driver team, this role is the front line of fleet reliability at our Arthur, IL facility.
- Perform scheduled DOT preventive maintenance on semi-trailers and tractor-trailers per established maintenance lists
- Diagnose and repair air brake systems, ABS systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems
- Perform axle work, tire repair, and tire replacement
- Complete light trailer body work including patching and minor structural repairs
- Perform minor welding and fabrication (e.g., mud flap bracket repair and replacement)
- Conduct general maintenance including lubrication and greasing of components
- Test equipment and systems to verify performance after repair
- Replace worn or failed parts and components
- Receive and respond to ad hoc work orders submitted by in-house drivers as they arise
- Document all repairs accurately and completely
- Follow all OSHA regulations, safety requirements, and DOT road safety standards at all times

Schedule
Tuesday – Saturday (On call rotation for Sundays)
6:00 am – 2:30 pm
Compensation Data
Hourly Range: $26.68 — $35.76/hr + Annual ROA Bonus
ROA Bonus:
Variable, determined by company performance each year, up to 33% of annual salary. Current average at C.H.I. is 33%.
Profit-Sharing:
10% of Nucor’s pre-tax earnings are contributed to the Profit Sharing Plan annually and distributed to all eligible teammates. A large portion is deposited into your profit-sharing account, and a smaller portion is distributed in cash. Current 6-year average = 19.88% of eligible earnings. Eligible earnings include regular pay, overtime, and bonus.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- DOT air brake certification
- Completion of a certificate program or technical training in mechanics and truck repair
- Experience working on and driving CDL-A equipment
- DOT annual inspector qualification certification
- Experience in a trailer shop and/or maintenance shop environment
- Knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and ABS brake systems
- Welding or fabrication experience
