Trailer Mechanic

Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Trailer Shop Technicians perform various preventative maintenance tasks on our trucking fleet. While we prefer a candidate with a certificate or technical training in mechanics and truck repair, we are willing to work with any mechanical professional with knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and A.B.S. brake systems. Welding or fabrication experience is also a plus, as these techniques often come in handy when repairing trailers. Trailer Shop Technicians need to be able to work a schedule that requires availability for weekdays and weekends. 

The current Trailer Shop Technician opening is for Sunday 6am-2:30pm, Monday-Thursday 10pm-6:30am. 

Related Job Duties:

• Diagnose issues in semi-trucks and Tractor-trailers
• Perform preventative maintenance on trailers
• Test equipment and systems for performance
• Perform repairs to brakes and electrical systems
• Replace parts
• Document repairs
• Follows all OSHA regulations and safety requirements 
• Ensures that all trailers meet the U.S. Department of Transportation's road safety requirements

Compensation

Wage Range: $26.00-28.00 per hour + $1.00 Shift Differential + Annual ROA Bonus

ROA Bonus

ROA Bonus percentage is variable, determinate upon company performance each year, up to 33% of annual salary. 

Profit-Sharing

10% of Nucor’s pre-tax earnings are contributed to the Profit Sharing Plan annually and distributed to all eligible teammates. A large portion is deposited into your profit-sharing account, and a smaller portion is distributed in cash. Current 6-year average = 19.88% of your eligible earnings. Eligible earnings include regular pay, overtime, and bonus.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1 year experience in general labor
• Possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year experience as a Trailer Technician
• Completion of a certificate program or technical training in mechanics and truck repair 
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Manual dexterity, experience with hand tools, and physical strength
• Knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and A.B.S. brake systems 
• Welding or fabrication experience
