Melt/Cast Metallurgist

Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Melt/Cast Metallurgist is an integral part of the Melt Shop and Caster team responsible for working with our teammates to create solutions in the areas of safety, profitability, and teammate development. This position is actively involved in the decision making of the process and product quality, strives for continuous improvement and supports the production team. As a technical resource, this individual will be directly involved with developing the specific training and communications required to expand the knowledge of our team, our partners and customers.

Nucor Steel West Virginia is Nucor’s new sheet mill with advanced steel making capabilities and lower carbon emissions.  This is a greenfield project, which is estimated to be fully operational after two years of construction.  The new steel mill will employ 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills and is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or Equivalent 
• Minimum 5 Years of Melt Shop/Caster related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Technical aptitude with the ability to gather, analyze and make data-driven decisions (SQL, Python, Power-BI, IBA, etc.)
• Demonstrates interest in the business and is focused on reducing costs, improve quality and/or improve efficiencies
• Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) in applicable field.  #LI-MC1
