Melt Shop Technician

Basic Job Functions:

Melt Shop Technician responsibilities include safely overseeing all aspects of producing quality steel from the Ladle Metallurgical Furnace and Vacuum Tank Degasser or Electric Arc Furnace. This includes daily operations, understanding cost, basic knowledge of scrap and residuals, alloy calculations, scheduling, operation of equipment, assisting maintenance, and coordinating shop flow. The technician will be expected to learn and effectively operate the EAF or LMF/VTD.  This individual is also responsible for the continuous development of themselves and teammates working under their mentorship. Working rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and scheduled and unscheduled overtime is required. 
Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: 

• Working around molten steel and slag
• Ability to operate mobile equipment (overhead crane and forklift).
• Restocking consumables
• Keeping a clean and safe work environment

Nucor Steel West Virginia’s greenfield project is a new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill that will produce up to 3 million tons per year once fully operational. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located in Mason County, along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3 years EAF or LMF/VTD Experience 

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Previous DC Furnace experience
•    Experience with Alloy calculations and additions
